Peru became a Party to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control on February 28, 2005. Although Peru has general laws to regulate transparency, the management of interests in the public administration and contributions to political parties, there is no specific legislation to regulate the interaction of the tobacco industry with public officials and authorities. This has led to acts that are considerably interference by the tobacco industry, but not necessarily violate any laws.
