tobacco control, support preventive measures, conduct media advocacy and create awareness among the
non-health departments. These testimonials aim to inspire countries to be creative and resourceful in using
their indices.
This special report presents compelling stories from across the globe that illustrate how GTI
collaborators used their respective indexes in various ways to expose tobacco industry interference,
create awareness among policymakers on the industry tactics, support and strengthen tobacco control
policy, and adopt protective measures. This compilation of stories aims to inspire countries to be
creative and resourceful in their advocacy initiatives to implement Article 5.3 of the WHO FCTC.
In 2021, civil society groups in 80 countries prepared their Tobacco Industry Interference Index
(Index), coordinated by GGTC and published by STOP, to assess how well their government has been
protecting tobacco control policies and efforts from being undermined and derailed by commercial and
other vested interests.
