Tunisia faces an urgent tobacco burden, with roughly 1.8 million adults smoking. In 2019, tobacco use caused an estimated 13,200 deaths—representing 20% of all deaths in the country.

The economic impact is equally severe, amounting to losses equal to 1.8% of GDP (about 2 billion Tunisian dinars). These figures highlight the need for strong protections against tobacco industry interference in policymaking.
