Mauritius was among the first countries globally to ratify the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) in 2004, as well as one of the first to impose pictorial health warnings on tobacco packaging in 2008. Mauritius has comprehensive tobacco control legislation, which includes a comprehensive ban on tobacco advertising, promotions, and sponsorship, smoke-free public places, and a uniform-specific tax that has been increased several times.
