India has been a Party to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) since February 27, 2005. While the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act of 2003 is India’s primary legislation for tobacco control, it currently has no specific laws for the implementation of Article 5.3. As the tobacco industry collaborates widely with various government agencies, particularly through corporate social responsibility activities, directly or indirectly it becomes involved in public health policy making.
