Egypt has been a Party to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) since May 26, 2005. Tobacco is a major challenge in Egypt, with a quarter of adults currently using tobacco products and half of the country’s population exposed to secondhand smoke in their own homes. To address this, tobacco control policies on pictorial health images and increased tobacco tax have been implemented. However, the tobacco industry needs to be further de-normalized as a partner in carrying out tobacco control measures.
