Tobacco smoking in Bulgaria remains high, with 29.1 percent of adults being daily smokers and 7.1 percent occasional smokers, according to the European Health Interview Survey (EHIS) from 2019, and Bulgaria had the highest share of smokers among member states of the EU.

Manufactured cigarettes still remain the most popular tobacco product in Bulgaria; according to the 2020 Eurobarometer survey, 91% of Bulgarian current smokers use them on a daily basis, the same share as in 2017. Yet many Bulgarians are increasingly replacing cigarettes with novel tobacco products.
