Guatemala became a Party to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control on February 14, 2006. Currently, Guatemala does not have any mechanism to regulate the interaction between the government and the tobacco industry. In addition, contributions from the industry to the government are not banned. However, law proposal 5461 bans all contributions from the tobacco industry to the government. The law proposal also requires the tobacco industry to declare all importation and exportation activities.
