Georgia became a Party to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control on May 15, 2006. The tobacco industry intensively participates in policy development processes. This business has strong support from the economic arm of the government and Parliament. Keen supporters of the tobacco industry include the Ministry of Economy and Office of Business Ombudsman of Georgia who promote the tobacco industry's position.
